MERA Presented its Innovative R&D Expertise during the 2nd FOKUS FUSECO Forum

Nizhny Novgorod, November, 30, 2011 - MERA, an Eastern European leader in value-added software R&D services for telecom and media, participated as a Silver Sponsor in the 2nd FOKUS FUSECO Forum 2011 which was held on November, 17-18 in Berlin. The event organized by Fraunhofer FOKUS, a major European research facility, brought together operators, vendors, integrators and researchers interested in real converged mobile and fixed Next Generation Networks and the Emerging Future Internet.

The Forum attended by nearly 200 industry and academic experts from more than 30 countries was dealing with the issues emerging in the course of evolution of service control platforms for fixed and mobile next generation networks. It was suggested during the event that LTE would become a major IMS deployment enabler in terms of Voice over LTE (VoLTE) and emerging Rich Communications Services (RCS) provision, although Circuit Switched Fallback (CSFB) solutions are considered key for providing mobile voice services in the short term. The event agenda also covered M2M which was considered to have huge revenue generation potential despite the standardization issues faced by the industry.

The event participants learnt at MERA booth about the company`s innovative R&D expertise and its flagship project - Future Telecom Technologies Playground. Built on Fraunhofer FOKUS platforms (OpenEPC and OpenIMS), the project is intended for provision of innovative software R&D services in IMS, LTE, SON, MIMO, M2M, RF Optimization and other domains. MERA booth visitors also had a chance to find out how the company is contributing to the development of OpenEPC. OpenEPC is a Fraunhofer FOKUS platform which enables academic and industrial researchers and engineers around the world to obtain a practical look and feel of the capabilities of the Evolved Packet Core. MERA and Fraunhofer FOKUS see significant interest in OpenEPC within the industry and plan to extend cooperation in and beyond this area and embark on new joint projects, i.e. Evolved Packet Core 4G access nodes integration, IMS client extensions development and potential cooperation in M2M and SON.
